About Dorota

I’m Dorota Klop-Sowinska, an international executive and career coach based in Amsterdam, helping ambitious professionals create careers and lives that truly fit who they are.

Originally from Poland and living in the Netherlands for more than 20 years, I specialize in supporting internationals, expats, and globally minded professionals navigating career growth, career change, leadership challenges, and life transitions.

Over the past 16+ years, I have coached hundreds of professionals from all over the world, including clients working in finance, tech, marketing, healthcare, consulting, and leadership roles.

My clients are often highly capable professionals who feel stuck, invisible, disconnected from their work, or unsure about their next step despite strong experience and achievements.

Together, we work on clarity, confidence, executive presence, communication, personal branding, career strategy, and creating a career aligned with both ambition and wellbeing.

I am the author of Career Jump! How to Successfully Change Your Professional Path.” I am also an official member of the Forbes Coaches Council, where I contribute insights on career growth, leadership, executive presence, and professional development.

Coaching Education and Certifications

I obtained my first certified Coach and Counselor diploma in 2010 from the Dutch Academy for Psychotherapy, an institute with more than 30 years of experience in coaching, counseling, NLP, and psychotherapy education.

In addition, in 2020 I completed advanced studies in Brain Based Coaching through the NeuroLeadership Institute, focusing on neuroscience, behavior change, and leadership development and obtained Results Trained Coach certificate from the NeuroLeadership Institute.

I am also a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, trained in the CliftonStrengths methodology developed by Gallup. In my coaching, I help clients identify and leverage their natural talents, leadership style, and areas of highest potential. I strongly believe that sustainable success and confidence come from understanding and building on your strengths rather than constantly focusing on weaknesses.

I am also trained in Positive Intelligence (PQ), a mental fitness methodology developed by Shirzad Chamine, which helps individuals recognize and overcome limiting thought patterns, strengthen resilience, and build a more positive and productive mindset. I frequently integrate mental fitness techniques into my coaching, particularly when working with high achievers struggling with stress, self doubt, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, or career uncertainty.

Business Experience

Before becoming a coach, I worked in the corporate world as an internal auditor for an international company. This experience gave me a strong understanding of business environments, corporate dynamics, leadership challenges, and cross cultural collaboration.

Working internationally and traveling extensively exposed me to different leadership styles, communication approaches, and workplace cultures across the world.

Today, this combination of business experience, coaching expertise, and international perspective allows me to bridge strategy with empathy, and practical action with deep personal insight.

Personal characteristic

Many people who know me say my biggest gift is my ability to listen with my open heart and mind. My clients describe me as a balanced person, who is creating a strong feeling of comfort and trust. A person who is not afraid to confront and ask difficult questions in a respectful way.

My work is deeply shaped by my own international journey. Besides living in the Netherlands, I also spent extended periods living in São Paulo and Mexico City, experiencing expat life from many different perspectives. I have been:

• an international professional building a career abroad

• an expat partner supporting my husband’s career

• a mother raising children abroad

• an entrepreneur building a business in a foreign country

• a woman navigating identity, ambition, reinvention, and cultural adaptation

Because of this, I understand both the opportunities and emotional complexity that often come with international life and career transitions.

My clients come from countries including the USA, UK, Brazil, Mexico, China, South Korea, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Spain, Belgium, Poland, and many others.

I provide coaching in English, Dutch, and Polish.

International CareerClub

In March 2013 I have founded the International CareerClub. The International CareerClub is a place where international / expat women can meet each other and get support in their professional life development. The club is about connecting, supporting and empowering women living and working abroad.
